This initiative focuses on two big goals. First, it will boost maize productivity and strengthen food security. Secondly, it will help commercialize maize farming so that farmers can earn more income.

Murang'a County Seed & Fertilizer Distribution

Why this program matters

So far, the results are clear. Average maize harvests have risen from 1 bag to 3 bags per farmer since the program began. In addition, maize prices have climbed and stabilized. Farmers now sell a 90kg bag at Ksh 3,700, compared to just Ksh 2,000 before. Clearly, this program gives farmers better yields and stronger earnings.

Who qualifies?

To benefit, farmers must meet these requirements:

  1. One household, one registration. No double registration.

  2. Formal application. Farmers must fill out a form from their nearest primary school. After that, a vetting committee approves the applications at the polling-center level.

  3. KIEMIS listing. Every farmer’s name must appear on the National Government Digital Farmers’ Register (KIEMIS). This proves that the farmer is officially recognized.

How issuance will work

The distribution follows clear steps:

  • Date: Saturday, October 4, 2025

  • Time: 8:00 AM

  • Venue: Nearest primary school (ECDE section)

  • Eligibility: Only qualified farmers

Most importantly, the county will send SMS notifications. Farmers will get a text by September 30, 2025. On issuance day, each farmer must show that text message to collect their seed and fertilizer.

What farmers should do now

  • Confirm your KIEMIS status.

  • Make sure your application form is submitted.

  • Keep your phone active.

  • Watch out for the county’s text message before September 30.

  • Arrive at your nearest primary school at 8 AM on October 4 with the SMS in hand.
